Is this a USPAP-compliant appraisal?

No. USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) is the formal standard required for legal proceedings, tax disputes, and certain regulatory filings. ClearValue reports are valuations and M&A analysis — built for owners, brokers, lenders, and dealmakers who need a fast, well-reasoned valuation to make a business decision. Think of it like a broker price opinion in real estate: professional and useful, but not a certified appraisal. If you specifically need a USPAP appraisal, you'll want a certified appraiser. How long does it take?

Snapshot & Full assessments are completed in 20–45 minutes of guided conversation, then reports generate in the background — Full typically 10–15 minutes, Snapshot in a few minutes. Enterprise reports typically take 20–30 minutes to generate. Document upload for AI-verified financials is coming soon. Currently, Enterprise delivers enhanced AI analysis depth using broker-entered data.

How should I prepare for my assessment?

You'll move much faster and your valuation will be more accurate if you have these items ready before you start:

  • Revenue for 2023, 2024, and 2025 (annual totals are fine)
  • Net profit for 2023, 2024, and 2025
  • Owner W-2 or total draw from the business
  • SDE add-backs (expenses you pay through the business that a buyer won't need): owner health insurance, personal vehicle expense, depreciation, one-time or non-recurring costs
  • Employee count (full-time vs. part-time)
  • Lease terms — monthly rent, expiration date, renewal options
  • Top customer concentration — does any single customer or group represent more than 20% of revenue?
  • Any pending litigation, liens, or undisclosed liabilities

Estimates are fine — exact figures improve accuracy, but the assessment works with approximations for most fields.

Is my business information secure?

Yes. Your data is protected by encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest (AES-256 at the infrastructure layer via our cloud platform). Enterprise-tier reports and uploaded financial documents receive additional application-level AES-256 encryption with per-tenant access controls. Data is stored on enterprise-grade infrastructure and protected behind authenticated login. Your reports are only accessible to you. We never share, sell, or use your business information for any purpose other than generating your requested reports.

Who can see my reports?

Only you. Reports are tied to your account and require login to access. ClearValue Advisory staff may access data only for support purposes. All personnel with access to the platform, client data, or business information are required to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to access. Your business information is never shared with third parties.

What happens to my data after my assessment is complete?

Your reports and assessment data remain stored securely in your dashboard for your reference. You can contact support@clearvalueadvisory.ai at any time to request deletion of your data.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. All payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment provider. ClearValue Advisory never sees, stores, or handles your card details.

Do you use my business data to train AI models?

No. Your business information is used solely to generate your reports and is not used to train any AI models or shared with third parties.

What extra protections do Enterprise clients receive?

Enterprise assessments involve the most sensitive business data, so Enterprise clients receive additional protections including report storage security, uploaded document protection, access activity logging, two-factor authentication, and unusual access monitoring. How does the system handle my financial documents?

Uploaded financial documents for Enterprise assessments are encrypted at upload time using AES-256 — the same algorithm trusted by banks and government systems — with decryption keys managed separately from the data store. Documents are stored securely for broker review and are never shared with third parties. AI-assisted document extraction and cross-reference is in active development — today, Enterprise reports are generated from your conversation answers, with uploaded documents available for your broker's manual review. You can request deletion at any time by contacting support@clearvalueadvisory.ai.

What is a Normalization Schedule?

A Normalization Schedule (also called a recast or add-back schedule) is a formal worksheet that adjusts your reported net income to show your business's true earning power. It adds back owner-related expenses — like your salary, health insurance, vehicle, and one-time costs — to arrive at your Seller's Discretionary Earnings (SDE). This is the number buyers, lenders, and their advisors use to determine what your business is worth. ClearValue Advisory builds this schedule automatically as part of your valuation report.

How accurate is the valuation?

Your valuation is based on the information you provide and, for Enterprise assessments, your uploaded financial documents. The methodology follows the same SDE-based framework institutional M&A advisors use. Accuracy depends directly on the completeness and accuracy of your inputs. Our reports are professional analytical tools, not certified appraisals. We recommend reviewing your results with your broker or advisor before making material business decisions.

Where do the market multiples in my valuation come from?

ClearValue Advisory uses AI-generated market multiple ranges based on published M&A research, industry transaction data, and general market conditions. Our multiples are sourced from nationally recognized business transaction databases covering 40+ industries, updated quarterly. Our valuations produce a professional, data-informed range — not a certified appraisal with verified comparable transactions. For a USPAP-compliant appraisal based on verified comps, consult a licensed business appraiser. Think of our valuation the way you would a broker's price opinion in real estate — a credible, professional starting point for understanding your value and preparing for an exit.

Can the system catch discrepancies in my financials?

Document upload for Enterprise tier is encrypted at rest. AI cross-reference of uploaded documents is in active development. Today, Enterprise reports rely on the conversation inputs reviewed by your broker; the document upload pipeline is in place for the upcoming AI-extraction release.

What happens if my expenses are labeled differently than typical?

The system compares your expense categories against industry benchmarks for your business type. If a category appears unusually high, it will flag it as a potential area to review with your advisor — and may identify add-backs you hadn't considered. This helps prepare you for the questions a buyer's advisor will ask in due diligence.

Who reviews my assessment?

No human advisor reviews your assessment unless you purchase through a broker partner. All report generation is performed by AI using institutional-grade M&A methodology. Broker partners review and edit reports before releasing them to their clients — but that review is performed by your broker, not by ClearValue Advisory staff.

What is Survey Mode?

Survey Mode is an alternative way to complete your assessment — available for Full and Enterprise tiers. Instead of a guided conversation, you see all questions at once in a structured form and fill them in at your own pace. It's faster for business owners and brokers who already know their numbers. Survey Mode produces the same reports as the standard conversation flow.

Can I complete the assessment on my phone?

Yes — the assessment works on mobile browsers including Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Your progress saves automatically so if you're interrupted you can return within 24 hours and pick up where you left off.

Does the system handle businesses with multiple locations?

Yes. For businesses with 2 or more locations, the assessment captures revenue contribution per location, whether each location is owned or leased, lease terms and expiration dates, profitability by location, and whether the seller prefers to sell all locations together or individually. This data populates a Location Revenue Distribution table in your CIM and automatically flags short-lease risk and revenue concentration in your Gap Analysis. Survey Mode also captures this data in a structured per-location form.
